A Brazilian investment group that includes former AC Milan and Chelsea striker Alexandre Pato acquired Northampton last month. The club currently sit 23rd in League Two.

During an open forum, Cobblers co-chairman Joao Xavier explained that Edu would provide occasional guidance on football-related matters.

Levski Sofia are controlled by London-based investment company Gemcorp Capital, which also invests in Sports Alpha Capital, Northampton’s new majority shareholder.

Discussing Edu’s involvement, Xavier said: “We are delighted to have both Alex [Pato] and Edu working with us.

“We developed a friendship while he was working at Nottingham Forest, and I asked him to help broaden my understanding of English football.

“Edu works as a senior advisor to one of our partners. Alongside his advisory duties at Levski Sofia, he will support us with sporting matters at this club whenever his expertise is required, rather than being involved in daily operations.

“Northampton will not become part of a multi-club ownership structure, and no other team is involved in our project.”
