Nashville SC struck twice after halftime to secure the Supporters’ Shield, finishing as MLS’s leading team following a 2-0 victory away to CF Montreal on Saturday.

The result extended Nashville’s unbeaten run to seven matches, with five wins and two draws, while improving their overall record to 21-3-7 and 70 points.

Montreal, now 6-18-7 with 25 points, have won only once in their last 11 matches and are officially out of playoff contention.

Sam Surridge opened the scoring in the 52nd minute by converting his own rebound. Seventeen-year-old homegrown goalkeeper Samsy Keita, making his MLS debut, initially stopped Surridge’s header from a Reed Baker-Whiting cross, but the ball fell back to the forward, who calmly placed it into the far side for his team-leading 18th goal of the campaign.

Hany Mukhtar doubled the advantage in the 76th minute. After cutting out defender Brayan Vera’s attempted clearance outside the penalty area, Mukhtar reached the loose ball inside the box and fired a shot that took a touch off Keita before entering the net.

Mukhtar nearly moved level with Surridge on Nashville’s scoring list in the 80th minute, but Keita raised his hands in time to turn away the close-range effort.

Keita faced an early challenge in the opening half, rushing toward the penalty spot to prevent Surridge from creating a chance near the end of the second minute.

Neither team produced much in a quiet opening, combining for only one shot during the first 18 minutes.

Montreal gradually improved as the first half continued, although they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

Vera narrowly sent a header wide of the far post from a left-sided corner in the 21st minute. Ten minutes later, Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake comfortably gathered Alexis Sanchez’s free kick before stopping another effort from Hennadii Synchuk roughly 90 seconds afterward.

Dante Sealy advanced down the left during a 33rd-minute attack, but his attempt sailed over the crossbar.
